4-6 pheasant breasts skinned and boned.  Dust with flour and season with salt and pepper.  Brown in skillet in half butter and half canola oil until light brown.  Place in casserole and cover with sauce.  Cover and bake for 2 hours in 300° oven.

I write this to you from the wide open plains near Chamberlain, South Dakota. It is a vast area where you get the feeling you could walk for the rest of your days, look back and still see where you started. It’s empty and beautiful at the same time, mile upon mile of rolling prairie and five times a day I expect to see a herd of buffalo come galloping over a rise. It is a very different place for the guy from the southern Appalachians.

2018 was one of our best years to date in Argentina! The hunts were amazing from duck to dove to perdiz and pigeon. From state to state and coast to coast, the gun debate control rages on, causing much frustration and derision on both sides of the coin. To say it is a heated issue would be a severe understatement. Nevertheless, South Dakota sees this as an opportunity in this debate to boost the state economy by inviting Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor industries by relocating to the Mount Rushmore State.

Thunderstik Lodge had the honor of hosting a pheasant hunt with some real heroes this spring. It was great to meet Rory Dunn and spend some time with him hunting and socializing in South Dakota. Jim Mazlowski, Rory, Stan(Rory's father) and I had a great time chasing after some spring pheasants in the sloppy South Dakota snow.

The Bakken Formation oil fields last year produced 113 million barrels of oil-moving North Dakota from 9th to 4th in oil production. Where there were once towns floundering, in danger of becoming ghost towns, new building and economic growth has changed the landscape of the prairie.

2012 South Dakota Pheasant Forecast - 2012 pheasant counts up from 2011. Annual August pheasant brood counts in South Dakota indicate that the statewide pheasant population is up from last year, and that should equate to an excellent pheasant season this fall.

As most people know by now South Dakota has been in drought conditions for most of the summer. For example, we had less than half an inch of rain in July. With that kind of news, we have been getting calls from some of our hunters asking about what we think the hunting conditions are going to be like this fall.
