Waterfowl hunting - timing is everything! Every fall thousands of ducks and geese migrate down the Missouri River. Starting as early as October some years and often lasting through the end of the year. Weather and feed supplies dictate everything. If you or your group would like to add a little something extra to your Thunderstik hunting experience, let us know as soon as possible.
If the geese are landing in the fields close to the lodge, it is great with easy access but licenses are limited. You need to let us know in late May and we will send out license applications to those who would like to apply. The application process is a lottery system. Most years we have had good luck getting licenses but there is no guarantee.
Another option is to hunt on the Grassrope, an area of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. We work well together to provide a great hunt and you can buy a license when you get there. You can wait until near your hunt dates (couple of weeks) and check with us. We will have a good idea what is happening and we will need to make a reservation with them. Last year was good for our first year working together. This next year should be even better.
Normally we get up early and hunt waterfowl and then as soon as we are done, we head out to hunt pheasants. It makes for a longer day but can be extremely rewarding!
